The Financial Systems Analyst is the central support service for the finance and accounting functions in financial reporting systems setup, maintenance and report generation.  As the “expert user”, this role provides education, guidance and support to department staff to develop reporting systems capabilities.


This role also champions financial systems improvement efforts, implementations, and upgrades as needed.  Finally, the successful candidate will be the primary liaison between finance/accounting and IT in order to improve the collaborative results achieved through systems and processes and team effectiveness.

  1. Technical manager for the financial reporting application (Unicom Finance).
  2. Create, update and manage all structures (entities, global chart of accounts, cost centers, brands, KPIs, common accounts, etc.) contained within the company’s financial reporting applications, including its enterprise resource planning system (ERP), its financial reporting and analysis system, its planning system and all other finance-related applications.
  3. Act as project leader for financial system tools and methodology improvement efforts through review of existing system settings, structures and processes.
  4. Act as primary liaison between Finance and IT, translating department functional needs to IT and coordinating staff involvement in projects or activities related to IT.
  5. Ensure that data output, which includes actual and plan data, from financial systems is accurate and troubleshoot variances and inaccuracies as needed.
  6. Perform administrative tasks associated with financial system tools. Such tasks include the following:
  • Create and maintain reports for financial systems applications
  • Ensure that data uploads into financial reporting and consolidation
  • Reconcile uploads to source data files and/or reports.
  • Review and approve general ledger mapping files for financial reporting system, prepare annual baseline general ledger mapping files and verify system opening balances annually.
  • Perform various maintenance and administration
  1. Maintain and approve system access levels for financial system applications and shared Finance folders on the Company’s network.
  2. Conduct annual and semi-annual reviews of user’s access.
  3. Support activities to compile all financial system requests from Finance group and either take action on the request or include it on the list of requests that gets submitted to IT through the PPM (project portfolio management) process.
  4. Provide education, support and guidance to Finance staff in the use of various applications; create training tools and conduct workshops as well as individual assistance.
  5. Conduct research and provide guidance to Finance on developments in technology and software capabilities specifically related to the functional needs of the department, now and in the future.
  6. Act as project leader for financial system upgrades and coordinate user acceptance testing associated with such upgrades. Coordinate projects and timelines in conjunction with IT as required.
  7. Compose and maintain documentation of system design parameters and reporting conventions that will allow easier analysis of potential improvements and ease of maintenance.


What You Bring to the Role

  • Expert financial systems administrator (Cognos, SAP, Hyperion, Oracle, etc.)
  • Ability to independently composing and critique financial reports under U.S, GAAP, SOX and NASDAQ requirements
  • Systems implementation, A+
  • Demonstrated experience successfully acting as an internal consultant and educator, providing ongoing guidance and formal training for users of financial reporting tools.
  • Experience successfully working with technical IT staff, external technical consultants and vendors showing a capability of translating complex technical concepts and information to usable guidance for the finance/accounting staff users.
