    Snapshot of What We’re Looking For

     

    We are seeking a passionate, business-minded Manufacturing Engineer who will be responsible for the effective and efficient production of product on all lines producing for WD-40 Company in the Americas by managing third-party manufacturers and vendors.  This includes oversight and problem solving related to packager performance and production line efficiency as well as product specifications and design for manufacturing.  This engineer is charged with overseeing the design and development of WD-40 Company owned tools and equipment and is the steward of all WD-40 Company capital assets related to manufacturing for the Americas.

    Responsibilities

    What You’ll Be Doing

    • Commercial Business Advocate
      • Provides guidance and support to all trading bloc as it relates to manufacturing’s impact on the commercial business.
      • Challenges and overcomes constraints that inhibit commercial objectives and collaborates cross functionally to ensure commercial success.
      • Manages balance sheet responsibilities related to capital assets and P&L responsibilities related to depreciation, equipment repair & maintenance.
      • Ensures adequate manufacturing capacity to support target demand through structural network changes including new vendors and the development of additional manufacturing equipment.
    • Design for Manufacturing
      • Collaborates with the Primary Packaging Engineer to review new and existing product designs to assure design-for-manufacturing within existing or planned manufacturing equipment and processes.
      • Collaborates with the Secondary Packaging Engineer during the product packaging design and development process to provide expert guidance regarding manufacturability, design standards, documentation, specifications, development of test methodology, identification of design alternatives, improvements in manufacturing efficiency, and reduction in cost.
    • Manufacturing Standards
      • Leads the troubleshooting of production and quality issues within the manufacturing process in partnership with external and internal suppliers, consultants and other functional teams. Evaluates Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE), sets OEE targets and analyzes labor and material variation within production processes to assure optimal quality, yield and throughput. Manages the production performance of over a dozen contract packagers ensuring adherence to product specifications and optimizing line efficiency.  Defines statements of work during requests for proposals and develops and performs plant audits to evaluate candidate strengths and weaknesses.
    • Manufacturing Continuous Improvement
      • Works cross functionally with R&D, Operations and Quality to develop innovative processes for new products and improve processes of existing products by applying engineering principles, lean six sigma methodology and standards and procedures in the execution of projects and programs.
      • Collaborates with Quality and R&D to define product testing specifications. Leads in the execution of Test Products Runs for new products to ensure product integrity. Recommends modifications to machinery and tooling to drive process improvements, and cost reduction initiatives with multi-functional teams.
    • Financial Analysis
      • Perform cost-benefit ROI/NPV analysis to support continuous improvement programs in manufacturing processes and product specifications.
      • This engineer conducts controlled experiments to consider the redesign of manufacturing lines and/or equipment and the development and transfer of new processes.
      • Prepare and manage annual P&L and balance sheet plans. Understand and utilize cost drivers to prepare cost analysis to inform ongoing continuous improvement efforts, identify new opportunities to target and evaluate the effectiveness and efficiency of contract manufacturing partners.
    • Steward of Machinery & Equipment Capital Assets
      • Manages the lifecycle of all assets performing annual inventories.
      • Tracks and communicates the status of each capital asset including invoice status and commission dates.
      • Works closely with Finance to ensure proper accounting treatment and that the formal capital asset approval process is followed.
      • Budgets annually for productive additions to WD-40’s assets collaborating cross functionally with all functions.

    Qualifications

    What You’ll Bring to the Role

    • Experience in business management of a multi-site, international organization.
    • 10+ years of relevant experience in production support and/or process definition and development, design, scale-up, improvement and validation.
    • In-plant experience with high volume production in a mid-level technical manufacturing environment.
    • Experience with product development processes and project management.
    • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Business Management
    • Mechanical or Industrial engineer who has direct experience within a manufacturing environment.
    • Lean Six Sigma Black Belt
